The Guilds are powerful houses formed to give greater power and representation to the various halls within them. There are 5 Guilds at present in the world of the Luminaries. They are: The Guardians Guild The Guild of Magic The Artisans Guild The Archivists Guild The Workers Guild These will all be defined in time, but to better explain how they are structured, let's look to the Workers Guild. Each Guild is an umbrella organization, like combining different teams of a game into an alliance, with each team helping the other, but still retaining much of their individuality. However, unlike a game, the Guilds are of vital importance to the workings of the Luminaries' world. Each Guild is composed of a varying number of Halls, some have more, some have less. The Workers Guild has neither the most, nor the fewest Halls, and is a good example. The Workers Guild contains the Halls of: Merchants, Farmers, Carpenters, Cleaners, and Freehands. Each group has their own interests, but in the end, they live by their hands and work instead of magic, the blade, their art, or their writings like the others. The Merchants rely on the other groups to produce what they sell, and so by joining with them in the Workers Guild, they are constantly linked to the needs of their suppliers. Farmers keep the world fed, while Carpenters construct the cities of the Luminaries. (Carpenters include both wood-workers and masons, each considering the other equally vital to their world.) Cleaners do the work which few others wish to do, dredging the sewers, sweeping the streets, and generally keeping foulness out of the cities. Most folks like them, even if they cannot tolerate the smell. Lastly, there are the Freehands. Laborers which do not fit into any of the larger classes, including general workers, dockworkers, and repair workers. The Workers Guild and the rest will soon be elaborated upon in full on their own respective pages, and in time the Halls will gain pages of their own as well. It is through the Guilds that most education takes place, as well as the largest petitions are put before Council.
